Pictures from Nicaragua
3rd January 2009
I’ll let the pictures tell the story with just a few short captions — hopefully either I or Kristine can update this with more details tomorrow!
- the airplane flight from miami to managua
- monkey high up in the tree where we were staying our first night
- shuttle to get from our house to the dining area
- analise, anna, and josiah show off their palm frond creatures made on the spot by a nicaraguan boy
- we climbed the backside of this volcano today in the toyota pickup shown in front of us to reach the village of el ojochal
- telica volcano again, but this time closer up with a good view of the crater
- our troop before the start of the hike – 1.5 very steep miles each way!
- josiah made it part of the way but eventually he needed a ride
- near the top of the volcano we were climbing you could look southeast and literally see part of the “ring of fire”
- here is the school at el ojochal – we had a picnic lunch here
- we also climbed on top of “el tanque” which is the rainwater collection tank built by Nuevas Esperanzas and the people of el ojochal
- analise got to ride a horse for a very short part of the ride back down when this caballero met us on his way up the mountain
- this is the best picture I could get of this – a boy riding one horse and leading the other loaded down with water to carry back up to his home

Brian, thanks so much for the photos! You have no idea what they mean to two “girlsick” parents!
