The best of the rest
13th January 2009
Here is a gallery of pictures that I missed in going through the photos in earlier postings … we took 935 photos and videos on the trip so you can see how easy it is to miss a few good ones!!!
- Josiah, Analise, Anna, and Emily right before we left for the New Year’s Eve party at Hotel El Convento
- Party hats at our table
- The girls liked smiling with their masks on!
- The girls liked smiling with their masks on!
- Emily and Josiah didn’t make it very long into the night before they were sound asleep
- Having fun at the party!
- The fireworks were awesome – here is a picture of the lighted “Feliz 2009” display. My favorite though was the fireworks “bull” where a guy would strap fireworks all over his back and then dance around hunched over like a bull
- Here was a display of many of the churches in Leon on our hotel wall
- This is one of my favorite churches in Leon – La Recoleccion
- This is the only picture I got of the church right outside our hotel — Iglesia San Juan. The main reason I took the picture, though, was to get a picture of the guy riding a bicycle carrying two headless manequins
- From our hotel roof patio, the view of Iglesia San Juan
- Also from our hotel roof patio, the view of the evangelical church on the corner of the street.
- A closeup of the pottery style roofs
- A view from our hotel patio overlooking one of the two courtyards
- This was the most frail dog we saw on our trip – high up on Vulcan Telica in the village of El Ojochal. Nearly ALL of the dogs in Nicaragua used to look like this one, but most of them are much healthier now – indirect evidence of an improving economy.
- This dog nipped at Josiah when Josiah tried to pet him.
- A wild melon growing just outside the fields at La Palmerita
- A horse freely roaming through a field of tall corn at La Palmerita
- The kids were full of energy for their last day together before we left for Managua to return home. Here Anna and Emily are dancing with Abigail looking on and supervising
- The podium for the bike race I won in Managua

I like the photos of the girls and Josiah dressed up for New Year’s Eve. And I like the photo of the two girls in their pretty masks.
My heart aches for the poor skinny dog. I’m glad that was not a common site on this trip.

Yeah, the dog was glad to see us though, because Josiah dropped his entire sandwich onto the dirt floor so the dog got to eat all of it. And then we fed him cheetohs, too. Hopefully that will help him out some!
